Monica Maher is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New Jersey (License #44SC06360600). She earned her Master of Social Work from Rutgers University.

Her advanced training and certifications include EMDR Therapy through EMDRIA, Certified Reunification Therapist, Bereavement Specialist, Violence Against Women and Children, Adolescent Advocacy, Finding Words forensic interviewing, litigation and evaluation certification involving abuse allegations in family court cases, Forensic Social Work Certificate (2026), and Certified Anger Management Therapist (2026).

In private psychotherapy practice, Monica provides trauma-focused CBT and EMDR-informed therapy for adult survivors of trauma, including clients navigating depression, anxiety, bereavement, adjustment concerns, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and post-traumatic stress.

Before private practice, Monica spent more than twelve years with the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency, beginning as an investigator and earning multiple promotions into supervisory roles, including Investigative Supervisor. Her work involved child abuse and neglect investigations, permanency, special response, screening consultation, court testimony, family reunification, and family preservation.

Current academic appointments include serving as a Subject Matter Expert with Western Governors University, where Monica creates Master of Social Work curriculum. She presently serves as Adjunct Faculty in Rider University’s Bachelor of Social Work program.

A request for family reunification therapy can be considered upon consultation with myself, attorney, and the family seeking services.

For attorneys and families involved in family court, I am an expert witness specializing in abuse matters. I also conduct child custody evaluations.
